Missions

Missionary emphasis for December - Birthday Of The King. This year's Birthday of a King offering will be collected for the Fairley family.  Dave is the Director of Youth With A Mission – Bishop / Sea & Summit Expeditions and oversees an outdoor adventure ministry center that is becoming a hub for outreach, training, support, and the establishment of new ministries nationally and internationally.  The Fairley's are a missionary family who have decided to be like the Levites and rely on the family of God to provide the funds necessary to survive so that God can use Dave full-time in ministry. We want to show our appreciation by blessing them for all the work they do in our community and throughout the world for Christ.   Donations will be received throughout the month of December. They may be placed in the box on the Mission Table or in the regular offering clearly marked Birthday of the King.

AWANA

Bishop’s AWANA Club for preschool through sixth grade takes place in the Family Center/Gym on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00PM October thru mid May.

AWANA is an international Bible-centered children and youth ministry that works with local churches, and blends Bible teaching, Scripture memorization and tons of fun. The acronym AWANA comes from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed as taken from 2 Timothy 2:15.

AWANA began in 1950 as a youth program at the North Side Gospel Center in Chicago, Illinois. Lance Latham, the church pastor, worked with Art Rorheim to develop a program that would appeal to young people, reach them with the gospel and train them in the Lord’s work. Other churches heard about the success of the AWANA program and asked if they could use it. By 1960, AWANA had registered 900 churches to start AWANA. Today, more than 12,000 U.S. churches run AWANA. There are clubs in all 50 states and in over 3,300 churches in 109 other countries and six continents. Jack Eggar is the President/CEO. Art Rorheim serves as the co-founder.

AWANA hallmarks include:
• Clear, consistent presentation of the gospel
• Bible memory – an AWANA cornerstone
• Circle games exclusive to AWANA
• A fun approach to learning God’s Word
• Leadership training that is second to none
• The church leaders of tomorrow trained to serve today
• Evangelistic focus designed to reach un-churched youth and their families.

AWANA Club activities are divided into:
• Cubbies: two years prior to kindergarten
• Sparks: kindergarten through second grade
• Truth & Training: third through sixth grade.
